351w 4x4, wanting 650+ hp

CaliforniaSpecial 28.05.2013, 07:07
Alright so I have a 1983 f150 4x4 regular cab short bed 4x4 with a 351w and a 3 speed c6.

Engine:

750cfm edelbrock 4 barrel
Edelbrock performer mid rise intake
Stock heads, pocket ported and cc'd
Larger valves 1.64 1.94
Had comp cams but dished the lifters and rounded cam
(So need ideas for cam too)
Bored .30 over
Flat top pistons not sure what kind, I plan on tearing motor completely down
Hooker longtube headers 2.5 exit, 2.5 to 3 inch y pipe w/ no muffler (ideas on that too)

Tranny

C6 3 speed
Clutch brake
HD torque converter (750 max tq)
Exterior intercooler
Fresh tranny from Fishers transmission here in Wichita

Rear end
3.55s

33x12.5x15 Firestone destination m/ts

Money won't be an issue soon
(New job making bio-diesel for 15$ an hour working at least 80 hrs a week)
My girlfriend is cheap and the truck will be my only money pit.

I've heard thoughts of stroking it and possibly a turbo.

I'm open to any ideas, I plan on keeping the same block, anything else can change.

Sorry bout the pictures, uploaded from my iPhone and keep turning

300 shot of spray should get you to around 500hp.

650 hp and a 4x4 sounds like alot of expensive broke drivetrain parts...

Exactly...

If you want those kind of numbers though, you had better check into a nice stroker kit, good flowing heads to match, good cam, etc. and a Procharger. I wouldnt go with a turbo on a 4x4, but thats my opinion.

Keep an eye out in the F/S section also. Good motors pop up in there occasionally that would be more beneficial than trying to build one from scratch.

Be prepared to beef up all your drivetrain though. The front TTB axle wont handle it, nor will the 8.8. Youd better be ready to swap in some Dana 60's and get a well built C6 to handle that!

It'll cost a whole lot of money to make that kind of power, and none of the parts you currently have will support it. A good start would be a 408 and a set of AFR 225 heads. You'll have $10,000+ in just the motor.

x2 Joshgn, Tons of broken parts.

yep money shouldn't be an issue when you don't have time to spend it.

I have a dd so I'm not worried about it sitting. Thanks for the input, you always have to start somewhere. Any ideas will help me get to where I'm trying to get, I plan on owning the truck for a long time (at least I hope so) so I'll have plenty of time to fix broken parts.

Thanks for the optimism 82 Gt lol

What block would be the best to go with?

Who makes a good stroker kit?

And like I said, money really doesn't matter and time doesn't, I'm not tryin to build the truck in a weekend, I know it'll take time.

Also I have a 390 mex block but I'm not sure if it'll bolt up to the tranny
