4.2 or 3.8?

rfcsoulja 15.08.2012, 15:26
I'm going to go ahead and buy an engine to build. I'm stuck between a f-150 4.2 of a 3.8 out of the later model Thunderbird. I'm not looking to stroke and bore it thus it probably gunna stay the stock displacement. I know the later Thunderbird engine had a forged crankshaft. Does the extra .4 liters of the f-150 engine outweigh the pros of a forged crankshaft? I'm supercharged right now but will be going turbo sometime in the next couple of years.

Well, by building it, I assume you mean with a forged assembly, so why short yourself the displacement?

I could save money on the forged crank by buying the 3.8 . So its extra displacement and buying a forged crank or less displacement with a forged crank.

4.2 and if you are going to build one you might as well bore it or something. You will regret it if you don't.

X2, I spent a fortune building my motor stock stroke, only to get outran by people running cheaper parts with more inches. Go for the cubes

The 4.2 crank is supposed to hold some mad numbers. The SuperCoupe motor would be good for the longhaul, plenty of guys running 600+ with the SuperCoupe motors.

I'd go 4.3 longrod and boost the shit out of it.

Now on the hunt for a 99 and up f150 4.2l engine. Holla at me if ya see anything. Shouldn't be too hard to find.

you could just go with the 3.8 with a 4.2 crank.that should bump displacement to bout 4.3
DasHengst 18.11.2012, 01:04
I have one that you could build
