Recently i picked up an 84 tbird turbocoupe from a friend. He was selling it cheap because it jumped time on him while he was turning into his neighborhood. He changed the timing belt and reset the timing three times but something is still not right with it and he gave up on it. Its making this popping sound at idle and lower RPM's through the throttle body and there is some hesitation in lower gears. However at 50+mph it runs smooth and just cruises at 65mph. I took a couple videos with my phone of the sound its making. I apologize if the audio quality sucks

this is a vaccum advance car right? if im not mistaking the old saying was if its backfiring thru the intake the timing is retarded to much. out the exhaust its advanced to far. or vice versa.

that being said if i remember right you ahve to pull the vaccum advance from it as you are setting the base timing, then plug it back in. should be up by the distributer i believe >.> lol

the advance is controlled by the ECM.

if you are sure the timing is right and you don't have some wires crossed, unplug the VAM and see if that changes anything.

well the verdict is in. When it jumped time it broke a rocker arm and the camshaft is jacked up. Ahwell time for roller rockers and a SVO cam.
