just wondering if anyone is running a t-56 with their 5.0. been thinking about the d&d performance conversion compaired to the stock t-5. Just trying to get some info from somone that has one.

my thinking is this. If I had a t-56 I would run a steeper(4.10)gear and still be able to get a decent mpg on the highway.

He had major problems with the tranny tunnel. The T56 was huge!

BTW he sold the car and now rides bikes because he is a girly girl!

I have my D&D Viper-spec unit sitting in front of my car. Mine is going in a '67 with a 5.0. I'm worried about the tranny tunnel. Other than that, after I get the proper bellhousing, it will go in like butter. Hopefully anyway. What kinds of questions do you have? I've done a fair amount of research. The steeper 6th gear is kind of a myth. Yes, some units have a .5x over drive. But, most have the .6x overdrive - the same as a T-5. So, if that's your sole reason, it's not worth it. Now, if you just want a strong tranny because you plan to upgrade the power and still want a stick car, go for it!!!

Well I just talked to Brad(old balls/school) and he said it wasn't the tunnel he had a problem with, it was the crossmember. You either need to buy one for the application or build one

proper cross member and bell housing and its no big deal.

just put in a tko600 and be done with it, unless you want the viper spec no reason to get a regular t-56

would the 6 speed be better for road racing. that and I just don't like the t-5, to many horror stories.

I didn't even notice the final drive ratio until you said something. would the .80 be a good idea for the street? as it is with my 3650 in my 03, i cant cruise in 5th at 50 mph. I have 3.55's in my 03 and will probabily run a 3.73 in my 92.

t-56 2.97, 2.07, 1.43, 1.00, .80, .62
t-5 2.95, 1.94, 1.34, 1.00, 0.63

the kit comes with the cross member.

I wouldn't say one would be better than the other. The TKO tranny is a very viable option and plenty of cars have gone super fast with them. I personally bought my T-56 for two reasons: I always wanted a six speed (yes, that is probably a ricer comment) and I plan to go super nasty (Graycen nasty +some) later down the road and still want to retain a regular manual transmission (I plan to road race, auto-x, drag race, etc). An automagic just won't do it all for me. I'll deal with the headaches of a high capicity clutch to acheive what I want. The benefits out weigh the consequences for me.

So you want it for road racing? and you don't even know the ratios of the tranny and then say you want to put 4.10 in the rear? I don't think you actually know what you want to do. Nothing new I know.

A tko600 will be about $600+ cheaper.

tko's are better in my book.
