347 questions

Daniboy1983 14.03.2008, 04:05
I'm trying to finish building my dad's 347 for my 83. I'm kinda uncertain how much power it should make but I'm wanting to run in the 11's. Ok its got a SCat lower end, not sure what pistons are in it, ported and polished 289 heads with 1.78 intake and I forget the exhaust valve size. 10 to 1 compression the cam specs are hydraulic flat tappet, duration 268/ 276, Lift .522/ .538. 1.7 roller rockers and shorty headers are going to be used also. I'm thinking about putting a Torquer 2 manifold and a 750 holley on it. Haven't got that far yet. A T-5 will reside behind along with 3.73 gears out back. About how much HP and TQ should I be making and will I be able to run 11's. I probably wont race much but i'd kinda like an idea of what the car should do. Hoping to finish building this motor and have it in the car with less than 2500 invested.

"302 parts will make 302 power"

i would change the heads get long tubes and run a victor jr or parker funnel web intake.

Trust me i ran completely worked over e7's. They're NOT enough of a head. mine were completely ported, 3 angle valve job 1.85 1.6 valves bronze guides and milled 40 thousandths. as the saying goes you cant polish a turd

I have a buddy with a 347 in a coupe, it has AFR 185's nice intake, stage 2 trick flow cam, and with no suspension really, 373's, 5spd, car weighs about 2400 lbs, and he prolly weighs 120 soak and wet, it went 11.70's. Don't think you are going to make it there man, sorry. Get you a good set of heads a custom grind cam,and a nice intake preferably a high rise, and you will get er done!!

Different heads, cam, intake. Different trans if you dont want to be fixing it on a weekley basis. Mine has been 11.35@121 at 3000lb.

Yep.Im going to be taking it back out in a couple of weeks and plan on spraying it. Im hoping for 10.60-10.70 on the 100 shot but im not sure my driving skills are up to it. This engine hasnt performed as well as it should since the PMS was put on it. It has a ton better drivability but it seems to be off a couple tenths. Im going to give it a couple more shots at tuning it and if it doesnt work im going to throw a carb on it and see how that works.

When/If you decide to do this, Ill take first dibs on that PMS

Im going to keep all my efi stuff if I decide to go carb. That way if I end up not licking it I can swap back. But if it works out you have 1st dibs on it.

Its stripped the fuck down man, I thought it was pretty unbeleivable untill he ran it across the scaes infront of me. It has no bumper supports, no fender wells, no interior (hardly, dash, seat, etc), tubular, blah, blah. pretty crazy though!

danni boy....have sean look for some good aluminum heads and a good cam(dont have to get a custom ground cam to get power your looking for a tfs stage 2 or 3 will do just fine)
